The Big DIY Challenge is open to everybody. All people have to do is tell the production what DIY project they are going to do and do it during the ten-day period of the challenge. Once people are registered we ask them to film progress of their project from start to finish on their smart phones uploading their progress every day. We also have camera crews across the country filming people doing projects and our host, comedian PJ Gallagher drops into homes to give people encouragement. For the first Big DIY Challenge in Ireland over 70 people did indoor, outdoor, small and large projects. These are now edited into half hour shows that feature 7-10 projects per episode. In the final episode the €10000 prize is awarded to the best DIY project.
