It was always a very funny idea: can you recognize a tune when it’s played on a doorbell?!
Super Star Ding Dong began life as a game show pilot self-funded by Vision Independent Productions. Its first series was a prime time music game show in China on CCTV, and so far they have made over 200 episodes.
The show is also going into its 5th season for Globo in Brazil.
In the game two teams of two compete in each episode.
In front of them: a line of doors with large doorbells. Hidden behind the doors: music stars new, retro…and even occasionally deceased (Elvis is in the building!!). The teams playing the game are given a set amount of “Bell Time” in each round. When they touch a doorbell it chimes a tune that belongs to the artist hidden behind the door. As soon as they press the bell the players are losing precious bell time so they have to decide quickly with their team mate if they know the song. For viewers: it’s a great play-along game, as they will start guessing too. If a team guesses correctly: the door opens and the artist comes out and does a short performance of the song – it’s a party. If they guess incorrectly: the other team gets their turn on the doors.
It’s this simple game that gives the show the space for fun and music.
