Quizone is a show that brings reality and quiz together in a world where children can really be themselves.
They populate an imagined world where – as they played the game – the onus is on them to organise themselves.
Using remote cameras the production is able to capture teams dealing with the challenges in their own way – in a game that combines mental and physical elements.
The Game
Three teams of five children (8-10 yrs) begin each game by entering their team search room. They are then instructed to choose their first “runner”. This person leaves the room and enters “The Zone”, a large climbing frame play area.
The runner from each team goes to the start/finish area where they make contact with their team back in the room via a video link. “Contact Made – Game On” we are now ready to play. The referee reads out a question and then starts the race. The three runners race through the Zone, while their team mates search online for the answer to the question from a computer in their search rooms.
When the runners complete their journey through the zone they return to the Start/Finish area and make contact with their team and get an answer to the question. They then race to the finish line.
When all three runners have come out of the zone and have made it to the finish line the Referee asks the person who was first for the answer. If they answer correctly they win points for their team. If the answer is wrong it is passed to the person in second position and if they get it wrong then the person last out of the zone has a chance to pick up the points for that round. Once we have a result the three runners return to their teams in the search rooms, reflect on what just happened and prepare for the next round. The team with the most points after five rounds wins the game.
The game is very real to the children playing which is due to the set up and tone of the show. It is taken very seriously: the host is a referee who plays the role in a serious manner and the voice over driving the action treats each race as a real sporting event.
